Claymont board authorizes appeal over 4.2-mill reallocation

The Claymont City School District Board of Education voted unanimously Feb. 9 to authorize legal counsel to file an appeal with the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals after the Tuscarawas County Budget Commission did not acknowledge the district’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of 4.2 mills of inside millage for permanent improvements.
The formal resolution states, "The Board hereby authorizes legal counsel to file an appeal on its behalf in the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals from the February 9, 2026 decision of the Tuscarawas County Budget Commission... unless the Commission takes action on or before March 1, 2026 acknowledging the Board’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of its 4.2 mills of inside millage." Mrs. Host moved to add the resolution to the agenda and Ms. Campbell seconded; the motion carried on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as yes.
Board President Mr. Peters presided during the vote. The resolution gives the Commission until March 1, 2026 to acknowledge the reallocation; if it does not, the district’s legal counsel is authorized to proceed with the appeal. The board recorded the same motion and unanimous vote again under New Business later in the meeting.
