Commission schedules hearings on four planning items; two recommended for denial

The Rome City Commission on Aug. 10 accepted four planning-commission items for first reading and scheduled public hearings for the next regular meeting.
The clerk outlined the four items: a special-use permit request for multifamily residential on Highway 411 (planning commission recommended denial without prejudice), a special-use permit for high-density traditional residential at 304 East 19th Street (recommended denial), a rezoning request on Innovation Way to rezone from heavy industrial to office institutional (recommended approval), and a rezoning for 711 West 2nd Street from office institutional to neighborhood office commercial (recommended approval).
The planning commission forwarded the items with recommendations and the commission directed that public hearings be held two weeks hence so stakeholders can comment.
The announcement closes the first-reading step; formal consideration, public comment and possible final votes will occur after the scheduled hearings.
