Monte Sereno's City Council voted to adopt a resolution of intent to participate in a West Valley homeless services implementation task force after staff summarized a regional feasibility study and needs analysis. The staff presentation said a 2024 needs analysis estimated at least 524 individuals experiencing homelessness across the West Valley region and recommended a task force to study temporary and emergency housing options.
Staff emphasized that adopting the resolution of intent does not commit Monte Sereno to entering a future memorandum of understanding or allocating funds; it directs staff to continue working with the other four West Valley cities to develop scope, consultant support and an MOU for future council consideration. The staff report noted that Monte Sereno had not contributed financially to the initial study; the city currently has $20,000 set aside in the budget (with $5,000 earmarked in a community grant) that could be applied to regional support.
Councilmembers discussed time commitment and the expectation that the task force would likely run about six months with periodic meetings and a prospective councilmember appointment to represent Monte Sereno. Vice mayor Shannon volunteered to serve if the council proceeds to establish the task force.
