Lometa council accepts recent budget workshop minutes, moves on August bills and adjourns

The Lometa City Council met Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, and finalized minutes from two recent budget workshops before moving to accept the city’s bills paid in August and adjourning at 7:22 p.m.

Mayor Derek Talley called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. and Councilmember Karen Chism led the invocation. City Secretary Stephanie Sweet recorded attendance: Mayor Derek Talley and Councilmembers Karen Chism, Alex Witherspoon and Gloria Martin were present; Councilmember Taylor Thompson was absent and one council seat remained vacant.

On routine business, Councilmember Gloria Martin moved — and Councilmember Alex Witherspoon seconded — “to accept the minutes from Budget Workshop #4” (Aug. 9, 2025); the minutes record that the motion passed unanimously. Later the council similarly accepted the minutes from Budget Workshop #5 (Sept. 6, 2025), described in the agenda as the finalized budget, on a motion from Councilmember Alex Witherspoon seconded by Councilmember Gloria Martin.

The council also considered a motion “to accept the bills paid for the month of August 2025,” made by Councilmember Alex Witherspoon with a second by Councilmember Gloria Martin; the minutes record the motion but do not specify a vote tally or formal outcome for that item. The meeting record shows all listed municipal department reports as "no reports."

Staff announced a special called meeting for Sept. 22, 2025, at 6 p.m. and the next regular council meeting on Oct. 6, 2025, at 7 p.m. The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Councilmember Alex Witherspoon, seconded by Councilmember Gloria Martin; the minutes state the motion passed unanimously and the meeting ended at 7:22 p.m.
