The Lometa City Council unanimously appointed Calvin Sweet to fill a vacant council seat and to serve as the city’s Street Commissioner during its regular meeting on Oct. 6, 2025. The motion to appoint Sweet was made by Councilmember Alex Witherspoon and seconded by Councilmember Gloria Martin; the council approved the appointment by a unanimous vote.
Mayor Derek Talley administered the oath to Calvin Sweet immediately after the vote. The appointment fills a previously listed vacant council seat. The council adjourned at 7:10 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
