Kootenai County approves termination of ES&S maintenance agreement after purchase of Hart InterCivic system

The board authorized sending a termination letter to Election Systems & Software (ES&S) to end hardware maintenance and software license support before the Oct. 1 renewal after the county purchased a new voting system through Hart InterCivic.
Asa Gray of the Elections Department told commissioners the county plans to terminate its maintenance and support agreement with Election Systems & Software (ES&S) because the county purchased a new voting system from Hart InterCivic. "Before you today is a request to send a termination letter to Election Systems and Software to terminate our hardware maintenance and software license maintenance and support services agreement that we have with them," Gray said on the record.
Gray explained the contract would otherwise renew on Oct. 1 and that the county's agreement contains a clause allowing cancellation with at least 30 days' notice. A commissioner moved to approve sending the termination letter; the motion was seconded, recorded aye votes were cast by Commissioner Duncan and the chair, and the motion carried. The termination will be processed consistent with the contract's notice provision and the county's transition to the Hart InterCivic system.
