Memo Chavez, the city's recreation supervisor, said the funds will be used to buy new tables, chairs, exercise bikes, a photo booth and arcade-style games to enrich recreational programming.
John G. (speaker 6), president of the Friends of the Seniors, described the group's history, a $600,000 endowment and a plan to distribute 5% of the endowment annually to support programming. "We at the Friends of the Seniors take that seriously," he said, and thanked council for approving the acceptance. The council moved to accept the donation (motion moved by Council Member Mango and seconded by Mayor Pro Tem), and the item passed unanimously.
