Resident urges removing minimum parking mandates in the Good Life District

Jacob Bono Larjic, a Kearney resident who addressed the council during public comment, urged that the city consider removing minimum parking mandates for businesses inside the Good Life District so developers can allocate more land to buildings rather than large parking lots.
"May I suggest we, for this district, removing the minimum parking mandates for the businesses down there," Larjic said. He argued that parking requirements result in parking lots that are significantly larger than building footprints and that buildings, not lots, generate taxable property value. He suggested testing a change on a small portion of the district to see how developers respond. Council and staff thanked him and noted they would consider creative development options and add information to the city website.
