Whitney Hu described early-stage advocacy efforts: "Small business owners are coming to the table. They are joining our meetings with legislators. They are fired up about this." She said steering-committee members and small-business employees are bringing lived experience to legislative meetings and that organizers hope momentum will persuade Albany to act.
At the same time, guests cautioned that the bill had not passed and remained "up to negotiation" in Albany. Whitney said supporters seek to prevent extreme increases (she cited examples of 100%-200% hikes heard in interviews) and noted that most small businesses operate on thin margins — "most small businesses are working within 10 to 15% margins, and so a 100% increase is out of the picture." Jean Marie and Whitney urged continued outreach to legislators and emphasized the importance of demonstrable local impacts in the record-building phase.
Host Gary closed the segment by thanking the guests and encouraging listeners to follow forthcoming City Limits coverage and Small Business United's organizing work.
