Multiple speakers said the commission's survey showed strong interest in volunteering and social events among older residents; they recommended a dedicated component at existing volunteer fairs or an annual event for seniors.
"Opportunities for volunteering were a top need," a commissioner said, noting the value of tailored volunteer fairs and multi-generational programs that pair older adults with young people for social engagement. Council members suggested city programming (concerts, park events) include targeted outreach and that the community calendar be used to publicize senior-specific activities.
Speakers also suggested using the website hub to advertise volunteer opportunities and to build awareness among older residents and caregivers about programs such as Meals on Wheels and local senior centers.
