The Lone Oak City Council on Oct. 8 approved Resolution No. 294‑2024 authorizing an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation to close Katy Street (state right‑of‑way) for the Oak Tree Festival on Oct. 26, 2024.
Special Events Coordinator Mina Dunlap told the council 14 vendors had paid to participate, with additional vendors who selected discounted multi‑event entries still owed payments. Dunlap said the chili cook‑off was canceled for lack of registrants and the car show might be canceled because of low signups, though a Drug Free Greenville fundraiser earlier the same day could increase vehicle turnout afterward. The council’s approval with a 5‑0 vote clears the way for the city to coordinate the street closure with TxDOT and proceed with other festival logistics.
The council also approved an updated civic‑center rental fee for Hunt County elections and other operational items tied to festival-day planning.
