Mayor Pro‑Tem Williams, speaking after Mayor Forgy recused himself from the Mesa Drive discussion, said the Economic Development Corporation had declined initial funding for Mesa Drive because it is a private road and the council had asked the EDC instead to support the Magnolia sewer work. EDC President Wes Owen later confirmed the EDC approved $25,000 for the Magnolia Street sewer project; the council then approved moving city-held funds to Mesa Drive. The council also voted 5‑0 to send letters to Mesa Drive residents notifying them of a Nov. 1 funding deadline.
Councilmember Scott moved to table the updated L&S Paving quote for the Mesa Drive project until the Nov. 12 meeting; that motion passed 5‑0. Council members also noted Mayor Forgy’s recusal from Mesa Drive agenda items.
What happens next: the city will notify Mesa Drive residents of the funding deadline and will take up the L&S Paving quote at the council’s Nov. 12 meeting.
