County weed commissioner reports expanded spraying, new seed drill grant

Ty Hammel, the county weed commissioner, briefed supervisors on roadside and conservation work during the Aug. 11 meeting. He said the county recorded nearly 965 miles of spraying this spring (up from 729 last year) while managing native seed harvests and maintenance mowing for prairies and guardrails.
Hammel said contract brush spraying will begin in town within the next week or two, maintenance mowing continues, and several revegetation projects are planned near Cambridge and Colo. He also reported the county received a $6,000 award from the Living Roadway Trust Fund for a dewdrop seed drill to support small‑scale seeding and restoration projects.
