Ames History Museum reports ARPA-funded expansion drew thousands; museum readies new exhibit

Casey Vance of the Ames History Museum told the Story County Board Aug. 11 that ARPA funds supported a major expansion completed in October 2024 and that the new space has enabled larger public programming.
Vance said a July 4 event that closed the street around the museum drew more than 3,000 people, and a free‑admission July funded by a community partner brought over 800 additional visitors. She noted partnerships with Iowa State University's history department for a new "History Happy Hour" fall series and previewed a November exhibit of local artist Velma Reyes.
Supervisors praised the renovation and the museum's outreach, and the board thanked museum staff for the update.
