Peotone board adopts ordinance allowing limited remote participation for members

The Village of Peotone adopted ordinance 25 0 1 to add rules permitting board members to participate electronically under limited circumstances.
A staff member explained the ordinance allows remote participation when a member is "physically unable to be here because of health or... sudden childcare, family emergency" or on official village business, but that the remote member cannot form part of the physical quorum. "One of the qualifiers is that, the person who's calling in cannot form the quorum," the staff member said, describing notice and audio-clarity requirements at the start of the meeting.
The board moved, seconded and voted to adopt the ordinance; trustees recorded affirmative voice votes and the chair announced adoption. The ordinance spells out notice procedures, technical requirements to ensure the remote participant can hear and be heard, and reserves the right to deny a request if the conditions are not met. The change codifies practices used during the COVID period into the village code.
