Davis Junction board to have engineers review Verizon water-tower upgrades amid long-running lease dispute

The Davis Junction board discussed a long-standing lease dispute with Verizon and directed staff to have the village engineer review Verizon's proposed equipment before deciding whether to allow the work, ask Verizon to renegotiate or pursue eviction.
Counsel Dan summarized the village's position: "the village's position for many years, may maybe 5 years or more, has been that the lease the water tower is terminated," and said the village can either request engineering review of the proposed changes, deny permission and renegotiate the lease, or pursue eviction and related litigation. Board members noted Verizon has continued to pay rent and that prior efforts to enforce the lease were not pursued. Dan told the board he would forward Verizon's plans to the village's engineers and notify Verizon that the village is reviewing the submittal.
The board was explicit that no eviction or litigation decision was made at the meeting. One member urged caution about spending engineering funds if the board intended to deny the work outright. The meeting record shows the board will revisit the item after staff and engineers report back.
