Police warn of short Highway 6 closures as crews lower overhead power lines

Navasota's police chief told council the city will assist Mid South crews while they lower and remove overhead power lines on Highway 6 tomorrow evening, and that off-duty officers will manage brief traffic shutdowns.
Chief Mike Myers said the work was postponed from January and is scheduled between 7 and 10 p.m.; he estimated the interruption to traffic should take about 15 to 20 minutes at a time and noted Mid South indicated most customers likely will not see outages because they were able to backfeed power. "We're gonna be up there with off duty officers and everybody else to shut down Highway 6 while the lines are lower down ... It should take less than 15, 20 minutes," he said.
