Navasota's City Council on March 9 unanimously ratified an agreement allowing the city to use corporate sponsorship money to add a drone show to this year's July 4 FreedomFest.
City staff told the council the display would have cost about $45,000 but is being paid entirely by private sponsors. As staff explained during the meeting, "The total would have been $45,000, but it's costing us $0 in taxpayer, money using, 100% corporate sponsorships." City officials said the city manager executed the contract prior to the meeting because the vendor required a time-sensitive commitment; the council then moved to ratify that action and carried the item without opposition.
