Mayor Karen Buck led the Burton City Council through a page-by-page review of a proposed Subdivision Ordinance at a Jan. 27 workshop, flagging updates made after the Jan. 13 session and pointing to language borrowed from Washington County's ordinance. "Right now, the City of Burton has none, therefore the County SDO applies in the ETJ," the mayor said as council discussed the interplay between city and county rules.
Council members identified several areas in the ordinance and its attached Design and Construction Standards exhibit that need edits to reflect local practice. One example raised during the discussion was the relative lack of curbs in much of Burton, prompting council to agree that the standards should be adjusted to better match the city's existing infrastructure rather than importing requirements meant for different contexts.
