Council hears preliminary plan for partnership with Burton Veterinary Clinic on feral-animal services

Mayor Karen Buck told council she discussed a potential partnership with Dr. Brandon Schulte of the Burton Veterinary Clinic to provide affordable spay, neuter and immunization services for feral and stray animals captured within the city limits. The city will work with the clinic to provide capture equipment, designate a service day, and partially reimburse verified services.
The packet included a draft agreement framework that states: "The City of Burton and Burton Veterinary Clinic will work in partnership regarding these animals, providing equipment for residents to capture loose animals, providing a designated day to exam, spay or neuter feral dogs or cats, and providing an agreed upon process and partial reimbursement for services provided." Mayor Buck said a formal agreement will be presented after the first of the year and a line item for the 2026-2027 fiscal budget will be added to make it happen.
Council did not vote on funding at the Nov. 12 meeting but recorded support for moving the draft agreement forward to a formal contract and budget consideration.
