Texas A&M students to map Burton wastewater system as part of Target Communities project

Mayor Karen Buck, Utility Manager Rachel Belvin and contractor Dustin Lozano met Oct. 27 with a Texas A&M engineering student team working on a wastewater project for Burton. The students toured lift stations, wastewater treatment sites and sewer infrastructure and documented findings for mapping.
City staff said the students will visit Burton regularly over the next few months and conduct a full tour of the wastewater treatment plant with utility staff. The mayor's report included the note: "Students will return for a full 'tour' of the wastewater treatment plant with Dustin in November." The project is part of the Texas A&M Target Communities program and is intended to help the city update wastewater infrastructure documentation.
Council did not take any formal action but flagged the coordination as ongoing and noted students' field work and mapping will assist future utility planning.
