The Burton City Council on Oct. 14 approved a change order to deepen the underground piping at Water Well #5, a move engineers say will raise the well’s tested flow from about 250 to 280 gallons per minute and enable roughly 50 additional service connections. BEFCO engineer Bradley Loehr told the council the extension adds 61 feet of piping and the city will pay the $4,575 change‑order cost out of local funds.
Council then approved Resolution 20251014R2 authorizing the City to commit up to $86,500 in local funds to cover construction cost overruns under Contract #24‑065‑042‑E534 with the Texas General Land Office (GLO). City Secretary Angela Harrington said the figure was finalized recently with the engineer and grant administrator. The resolution passed on a unanimous vote.
Loehr said project timing remains tight. “It is expected to have the new well completely operational before Thanksgiving,” he told the council. Councilmember Jeff Eckhardt moved the change order; Councilmember Nathan Kalkhake seconded. The council later approved the resolution to commit the additional funds.
