Metuchen board welcomes four new teachers and a social worker ahead of school year

The Metuchen Board of Education on Aug. 11 introduced four new district hires and invited each to make brief remarks to the board and public.
"My name's Cassidy Hand. I will be starting my 1st year of teaching at Moss this year doing, self contained preschool, which I'm very excited for," Cassidy Hand said after being introduced as the new Moss preschool teacher. Molly Larkin, who said she will teach 4th grade at Campbell School, told the board she was "so excited and so grateful for this opportunity." Gabriela Pino said she brings seven years of experience in special and general education and will be new to 4th grade this year. Julianne Ulmer said she will serve as a leave-replacement school social worker at Campbell and Edgar and noted prior experience in alternative high-school settings.
Dr. Caputo — who introduced the group — thanked the staff and said new teachers will be fully on-site after the district’s new-teacher orientation. Board members welcomed the hires and encouraged them to participate in the orientation scheduled later this month.
The board noted new hires will begin full time after orientation; Dr. Caputo and other members said the district looks forward to integrating the staff into buildings and working with families and students. "Welcome," the board repeatedly said as each new employee spoke and met members of the board.
