Commission approves MOU with Cedar Highlands HOA for fire-truck staging

The Iron County Commission unanimously approved an MOU with the Cedar Highlands Homeowners Association to establish terms for construction and use of a small fire-truck staging facility intended to improve wildfire response times in the Cedar Highlands area.
Cassie Meredith, the county's Emergency Wildfire Specialist, said the MOU "established terms and responsibilities for the construction and use of a Fire Truck Facility/Fire Truck" and that the vehicle would be operated and maintained by the Cedar City Fire Department or another county-designated agency. Meredith emphasized the MOU does not transfer ownership of the truck or emergency equipment to the HOA.
The commission approved the MOU by motion (Paul Cozzens moved; Michael Bleak seconded) with all three commissioners voting Aye. Staff said the project is intended to reduce response times and provide a mutual public-safety benefit to Cedar Highlands and surrounding areas.
