Fishing derby draws hundreds; trustees circulate draft short‑term rental application

Trustee James Ramus reported a successful community fishing derby: over 170 fish were caught, more than 110 anglers registered (including small children), seven bikes were donated, and volunteers prepared breakfast and lunch for participants. The event also benefitted from donated supplies and a $2,500 grant that covered expenses, the mayor said. A ribbon cutting for the trail committee is planned in October and may coincide with the village’s 120th anniversary weekend.

Trustees were also given draft short‑term rental applications for review. Recreation programming updates included summer tennis, teen pool‑party nights, a Juneteenth event on June 20 and a reading of the Declaration of Independence; organizers of Highlands Together We Decide are transitioning to a new 'We Build' phase and will form committees to pursue priorities after receiving 300 votes.
