Kings County holds AB 2561 public hearing on vacancies; staff reports decline in allocations and planned deletions

Hernadez explained that one bargaining unit (the prosecutors association) showed a vacancy rate above 20% (7 vacancies among 21 authorized FTE) but that many vacancies were due to positions that are held, unfunded or planned for deletion; when held positions are removed from the calculation the prosecutor unit rate fell to about 4.76%.
Rambunga and Hernandez described recruitment and retention steps (NEOGOV streamlining, outreach to military spouses, telework and flexible schedules, bonuses) and provided time‑to‑hire data. Assistant CEO Matthew Boyette told the board that the recommended budget will include deletion of roughly 50 vacant positions as part of a position allocation cleanup. After public comment and board questions, the board closed the public hearing and voted to accept the AB 2561 presentation into the record.
