Recreation services reports strong summer participation and new fall programs

Lindsay, rec services supervisor, updated the board on summer participation, a Delta Activity Center parking-lot improvement project and upcoming fall programming.
"The community center served over 2,743 kids this summer in camps alone," Lindsay said, adding that 669 participants were served in recreational summer programs. She told the board the parking lot improvement at the Delta Activity Center started on Monday and that the facility and restrooms are closed for safety while construction occurs.
Lindsay previewed fall offerings — gymnastics, dance, Tot Time and an expanded outreach program called Sparks (a business academy) — and said staff will offer additional services during school breaks and the academic year. The department also described a line-dance showcase and adult art show as recent successes.
Board members asked about space and capacity for birthday parties and classes; Lindsay said operations have adapted to accommodate both programming and special events.
Staff asked the board to note the parking-lot construction impact to programming and to support participant outreach for newly introduced classes.
