Residents warn of truck conflicts, limited outreach for Old San Antonio Road and bond process

Several Buda residents used the public‑comment period to raise safety and process concerns about local projects and the county bond. Betsy Irvin described observed truck movements at the MI Homes site on Old San Antonio Road and said the mitigation schematic could create dangerous turning patterns for heavy trucks; "The mitigation plan is actually dangerous and probably illegal," she said.

Jeff Kauffman spoke against the bond, telling the council he and many residents believe the county did not conduct adequate outreach before finalizing the project list. "This bond was made without transparency," he said, arguing the process resembled a completed plan presented for public persuasion rather than an open, deliberative effort. Kauffman also raised environmental concerns, citing potential impacts to Plum Creek and other waterways and the absence of robust public‑transportation measures in the package.

Commissioner Smith and staff responded in the meeting, saying many individual projects had multiple public meetings and that a series of county forums were planned to explain project phasing and discretionary funds. Smith acknowledged perception issues and offered follow‑up briefings to city officials and neighborhood groups.

Next steps: Council asked staff to circulate county outreach dates and to request more detailed schematics and mitigation plans for Old San Antonio Road and nearby development sites so the council can review safety analyses and coordinate with county staff.
