Alpharetta to pilot 'Artscapes' outdoor gallery and purchase select sculptures

Kim, cultural services staff, briefed the board on a fall pilot called Artscapes and several public‑art and education initiatives that the city will support administratively.
"This will start going up probably in about a month," Kim said of Artscapes, which is being organized and funded by an arts operator; the city will provide logistical assistance for permitting and display. She explained the city has a lease-to-purchase approach for several rotating sculptures: two pieces will be purchased outright after prior lease payments are applied toward the sale price, while others will be moved or retained under the program.
Kim also described a new Alpharetta Junior Historian's Adventure Guide for elementary school tours of City Hall and the museum, stamped crosswalk designs to improve park connectivity and a recently delivered large kiln for the ceramics studio.
Board members asked about student participation; Kim said artists and students will have application opportunities in future cycles and that Artscapes is a beta test for a recurring program.
Staff requested continued cooperation with public‑works and community development on installation logistics and with the Cultural Arts Commission for formal approvals.
