Highland Falls mayor says reestablishing village building department is under early review

Mayor DiSalvo told the Board of Trustees that the village budget year begins June 1 and that trustees have discussed whether to change the Town contract for building inspections or reestablish a village building department.
"The Town runs calendar year for their budget, we run at a different time. Our budget starts June 1st. The board discussed during budget sessions to maybe change the contract or reestablish the building department at village, but we would have to fund the department," DiSalvo said, adding that trustees had not yet spoken to the Town about the contract, position, or office location and that the process was in its infancy.
DiSalvo noted turnover in a key enforcement role: "over the last ten years 9 people have been in the second position," and said newly elected trustees had raised the issue during budget discussions. No formal motion or funding decision was made during the meeting.
