Town adopts Local Law 2-2025 to add alternate to planning board

The Town Board continued a public hearing on Local Law #2-2025 concerning the structure of the town planning board and its relationship to zoning. Attorney Glen Bruening of Miller and Mannix explained that the town may adjust planning-board membership at the board's discretion and that planning functions could be reallocated, but zoning authority could not be abolished.
Supervisor Bronner proposed adding an alternate member so the planning board could have a temporary replacement when a regular member recused themselves for conflict of interest. Councilman Jordan said he generally preferred a larger planning board and indicated he planned to vote against the measure as presented. The board voted to adopt Local Law #2-2025 with the alternate-member amendment; roll-call vote recorded Hubiak aye, Gerhardt aye, Voght nay, Jordan nay, Bronner aye.
Bronner noted that the law could be further adjusted in the future following another public hearing if the board determines it needs more members.
