President Joy Schmitt raised concerns about legal issues arising nationally from the use of AI-generated information and asked that the town and its committees avoid using AI-generated materials for official town business. Town Attorney Chris Willoughby recommended the council consider formally adopting an AI-use policy for staff and committees and said he would share a policy example he prepared for another entity.
Councilmembers tabled formal action and expected Willoughby to provide the sample policy for review at the next meeting. The discussion was characterized as a request for staff and committees to refrain from using AI-generated information until a formal policy is considered.
