Police Chief and Town Administrator Mark Swistek summarized department activity and grant status during the July 13 meeting. He said the department’s 2026 ATV—purchased in December—has been put into service and staff will research a 2027 replacement police vehicle to present later in the year. Swistek reported the port security FEMA grant is still holding funds earmarked for a new police boat and provided no timeline for release.
Swistek said the department advanced through the first stage of a portable radio replacement grant applied for through Congressman Frank Mervan’s office; the requested award amount is $65,000 and the department should learn final results next spring. He also noted the department was not successful in an EV police vehicle grant application and that the Reserve Deputy Unit needs new applicants after losing three reserve officers.
