Franklin sees uptick in enteric illnesses, schedules flu clinics

Staff reported that Franklin is seeing a number of cyclosporiasis cases alongside an overall increase in enteric diseases this year; they said testing patterns could reflect higher awareness and more testing. "Certainly, one of the things that has been making the news is the, cyclosporiasis outbreak," a staff member said.
The department also reported a recent uptick in hospitalizations for COVID, flu and RSV — two hospitalizations were reported this week — and an increased workload for reporting and treatment of latent tuberculosis. Staff are scheduling flu-clinic appointments; the department has already begun scheduling and said dozens of appointments are booked. The board discussed continued monitoring, vaccination outreach and the staff plan to maintain services even with temporary staffing constraints.
