The West Haven City Council on Aug. 21 adopted Resolution 33-2024 to amend the city's garbage collection rates and effective date.
Shawn Warnke presented the rate proposal and told the council he believes "this increase will cover us until 2027." Councilmember Carrie Call noted the resolution did not show the specific new rates; staff and council confirmed the amended rates would be $14.15 for the first can and $9.95 for the second can and discussed notifying the public prior to the effective date.
Councilmember Kim Dixon moved to adopt Resolution 33-2024 amending the rates and effective date; Nina Morse seconded. The motion passed with all five councilmembers voting aye.
Councilmembers asked staff to allow time for public notice before implementing the new rates and discussed adjusting the ordinance language to reflect the explicit dollar amounts.
