City Planner Kyle Kobe presented a proposal to initiate a code amendment (CA-26-001) to review allowed uses in the C — Commercial District and update section 16-306 of the municipal code. Kobe said the amendment aims to clarify permitted uses and expand practical applications of the Commercial District to better support uses such as restaurants or offices.
Commissioner Pat Jankowski moved to initiate CA-26-001 and Commissioner Sam Campbell seconded; the commission voted 4–0–0 to begin the amendment process. Initiation at the Planning Commission level begins the staff-driven review and public-notice process; any formal changes to code will return to the commission and the City Commission for hearings and final adoption as required by state law.
Staff noted this initiation is the procedural start of a zoning text amendment and does not itself change permitted uses. The commission did not adopt any text at this meeting; staff will draft proposed language, publish notices and schedule hearings for future consideration.
