In a department update, planning staff reported the Growth Management Hearings Board recently denied all appeals of the city’s comprehensive plan and development regulation updates, a result staff described as a validation of the city’s process and compliance with the Growth Management Act. The staff update summarized next steps and the schedule for fall hearings: permit-streamlining (Title 19) subject to a public hearing planned for Sept. 15; draft critical-area amendments expected to be released Sept. 29 with a public hearing on Oct. 13; and a possible earliest SMP hearing on Nov. 10.
Staff emphasized there will be opportunities for public comment during the draft-release periods and said the department is coordinating agency outreach and environmental review. Commissioners were reminded that updates tied to the critical areas regulations must be completed this year and that the SMP process includes a separate Ecology review before any amendments take effect.
