Mitchell County board introduces new planning and zoning administrator; auditor says a resolution is needed to split departments

The Mitchell County Board of Supervisors introduced Paige Martin as the county's new planning and zoning administrator and discussed next steps for separating planning and zoning from sanitation in the county budget.
The chair (Chair (S1)) told the board that Martin has "jumped right in neck deep" since starting and that her posted office hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The chair said Martin is "already answering some calls" and is coordinating with John Robbins on updated forms.
On the accounting side, the chair relayed guidance from the county auditor, Elizabeth Thayer, that to move sanitation and planning and zoning into separate departmental appropriations "we would need a resolution approved" and that the board must follow applicable provisions of the Iowa Code as cited in the meeting. The board asked staff to put a formal resolution on a future agenda so the auditor can "have eyes on it" and confirm how to handle any July transactions via journal vouchers if needed.
The board did not vote on the resolution at the meeting; supervisors asked that the auditor and other staff review the specific line items and the proposed split before the item returns to the agenda.
