Council approves property acquisitions needed to widen Columbia Street bridge and advance bidding
Summary

Councilman Burrell told the council the Columbia Street bridge replacement project has been under design and that updated bridge standards require a significantly wider span, necessitating acquisition of additional property and servitudes. "Once we have all these servitudes and right of ways and properties acquired, we can finally go to bid on this project," Burrell said.
City administration confirmed the design includes pedestrian access and that utility and right-of-way considerations have been addressed. Council members asked how pedestrian movement will be handled during construction and staff said vehicles and pedestrian traffic will be rerouted while construction is underway and that a walkway is included in the design. The council moved, seconded and adopted the ordinance authorizing the acquisitions, enabling the project to proceed toward bidding.
