Board hears that jail re-entry services were not funded this year; partners seek alternatives

Michelle Kelly of Anazao told the board that Anazao tried to align its state strategic planning with the Community Corrections Board and will bring coalition planning information to the board’s Goal 1 work group.
Kelly told members that "re-entry services for the jail population was not funded this year" and said the state prison system's release supports have reduced recidivism for those leaving prison, but the jail population remains without dedicated funding. The Public Defender's office reported it has begun connecting clients with Anazao and that the early feedback has been positive.
Board members noted the funding gap as a priority for future work and discussed seeking grant or partner funding to extend re-entry supports to people leaving the local jail.
