Wayne County corrections: new jail footers laid; addition due Sept. 2025, completion Dec. 2026

Ada Franks of the Wayne County Corrections division reported construction progress on the county's new jail at the Sept. 16 Community Corrections Board meeting.
Franks said the footers were laid and that walls will be poured horizontally on site and then lifted within about a month. She gave a timeline: "The date for the addition phase is September 2025. Completion of the entire project is set for December 2026." Commissioner Ron Amstutz noted that approval for multi-functional tablets for inmates was expected from the commissioners that week and that phone updates to enable tablets were on the session agenda.
Franks also described the typical state inspection findings and a corrective-action plan tied to the construction project to address prior citations such as inadequate living space and lighting. Regional Veterans Affairs staff will visit to inform corrections staff about resources for incarcerated veterans, including those who are homeless or have medical needs.
