Wayne County pilot places on-site mental-health stabilizer at jail; crisis calls fall

The Wayne County Corrections Planning Board heard an update June 2 on a pilot program that places on-site stabilization services at the county jail for inmates experiencing mental-health crises. Piper Davidson said the jail partnered with the Mental Health & Recovery Board (MHRB) and OMAS and engaged local provider Viola Startzman to provide on-site stabilization; the pilot began in January.
Davidson reported that "the number of calls have significantly went down since the start of the pilot program in January," and she is compiling statistics for reporting to partner agencies. Board members asked staff to continue collecting outcomes data and to provide further information about a county software tool Davidson said she had seen that tracks individuals with severe mental-health needs so agencies can coordinate services.
