Commission readies fall preservation awards, highlights training opportunities

Staff also reviewed training options for commissioners and the public: an online summer short course from the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC), the New Bern Historical Society lunch‑and‑learn scheduled for Aug. 27 (on a wait list), and a National Trust for Historic Preservation summit with an online attendance option in September. Commissioners discussed using the summit and local talks as part of broader public outreach.
Separately, commissioners discussed inviting Wade Rogers back to present to property owners on why preservation matters, basic contractor conversations for historic properties, and tax credit information. Staff and commissioners aim to schedule his appearance in September and coordinate outreach across partner organizations to attract a full house.
