The Village Board unanimously adopted an ordinance on Dec. 4 establishing administrative and storage fees and clarifying procedures for removing and impounding abandoned, inoperable or wrecked motor vehicles. Police Chief Eric Hansell told trustees that neighboring jurisdictions typically charge such fees and the Village previously lacked an ordinance to recover storage and administrative costs.
Treasurer Mindy Olson added that once the ordinance is effective, the Village will begin assessing fees for items departments currently hold. "Once the ordinance is passed, we will begin to charge fees for any items the department has in possession currently," Olson said. The ordinance passed by unanimous roll call.
