Police: Palmetto Elementary shooting not related to school population; suspect arrested

Chattahoochee Hills Police Chief Degoo briefed the council on a shooting that occurred earlier the same day at Palmetto Elementary. He said the incident did not involve students, staff or parents and appears to have been domestic in nature; a woman died and the suspect was arrested in Houston County.
"There was a shooting at the Palmetto School. It happened, again, at the Palmetto Elementary School. It did not involve any staff members or parents or students," Chief Degoo said, explaining that investigators from Fulton County School Police are leading the case and that Chattahoochee Hills provided mutual-aid assistance on scene. He noted the city’s mutual-aid ties to Palmetto and said the arrest occurred a few hours after the incident.
The chief also reminded council members about upcoming community-policing events (including a Citizens Police Academy in March) and that he will be representing the department at legislative meetings in Atlanta. Councilmembers thanked police for prompt coordination and asked to be informed of developments as the investigation proceeds; no operational changes for local schools were announced during the briefing.
