City manager: $215,000 in unbudgeted capital spending will be covered by reallocations

City Manager Robbie Rockewitz told the Chattahoochee Hills City Council on Feb. 10 that about $215,000 in unbudgeted capital expenses had arisen over the previous 45 days and that staff plans to reallocate existing capital funds rather than seek new revenue.
"By the time those [projects] come back, by the time they get awarded, we'll be in the next fiscal year," Robbie Rockewitz said, describing a mix of emergency tree removals, electrical repairs, and other unplanned costs that have consumed funds budgeted for restroom, roof and flex-room work. He said specifically that about $215,000 of expenditures had come up beyond the $375,000 originally budgeted for public-works capital.
Rockewitz outlined line items that prompted the reallocation: emergency tree removal deemed necessary by an arborist, a planned electrical upgrade to resolve power overloads in City Hall, an invoice from the Trust for Public Land for services tied to a park-acquisition project, an emerging sound-system repair need, and an anticipated truck repair that will appear on next month’s agenda. He emphasized that, while the expenditures were not budgeted, the city has budgeted capital funds available that can be shifted and that some projects will be delayed into the next fiscal year.
Councilmembers thanked staff for the update and asked that future packet materials clearly identify which expenditures required immediate action versus those that will be handled during the normal budget process. The council took no separate roll-call on the reallocations beyond the routine agenda votes.
