Administration told trustees that Brackett ISD's voting entitlement for the Kinney/Kenny County Appraisal District changed sharply from 2023 to 2024.
"We had 54% of the levy, and that meant that we got 1,612 votes. And then if you look at 24, we went to 49% of the levy and dropped to 994 votes," the staff member said, noting the decline in levy percentage and votes. The staff member said the district is not the appraisal district and does not want to accuse the appraisal district of wrongdoing but requested permission to seek a legal opinion on how the levy calculation was performed.
After discussion, the administration asked the board for guidance on whether to pursue legal review; the board indicated items related to ballots and the appraisal district would be pushed to the November meeting to allow further review.
