Public works staff presented a $71,000 change order for the Destrehan Wastewater Treatment Plant aeration basin rehabilitation, and explained the increase stemmed from piping conflicts encountered during construction as well as the need to manufacture replacement piping, which contributed to a 133‑calendar‑day schedule extension.
"This is a $71,000 change order. We had some piping conflicts both underground and above ground," the presenter said, adding that the project includes operational improvements (removal of rotating bridges and installation of surface plates to reduce future storm damage). He also noted an automation program for the blowers did not meet specifications and has been returned to the vendor for reprogramming; the system is otherwise operational. Council approved the change order.
