Parish president outlines multi‑million-dollar drainage, railroad and recreation projects

"Together, the months 1 and months 2 pump station construction projects represent a $32,000,000 investment in the St. Charles Parish drainage infrastructure," Jewell said, and outlined timetables for substantial completion of several projects: Months 1 expected November 2026, Months 2 in January 2027, and Murray Hill/Deshiran Drive improvements (a $2.1M project) on track for substantial completion by Sept. 1. Jewell also reviewed the $10.5M CN jack-and-bore project (first bore anticipated late August), the $4.99M Des Allemands Boat Launch (NRDA/Restore Act funding), and other drainage center repairs and canal improvements.
Council members asked for neighbor notification about noise and vibration during 24-hour boring operations and raised questions about timelines and utility coordination. Staff pledged to notify adjacent neighbors when jacking operations will occur and said permitting and railroad requirements constrain some pre-construction utility locating work.
