Planning Commission approves Nielsen's Frozen Custard site plan, forwards proposal to City Council

The West Point Planning Commission on Feb. 26 approved a site plan for Nielsen's Frozen Custard and agreed to forward the item to the City Council for final consideration. Commissioner Taylor made the motion to approve the site plan; Commissioner Norton seconded and the commission recorded a unanimous affirmative vote.
Steve Nielsen explained the project would differ from a typical franchise arrangement: the West Point location would be jointly owned by the Nielsen and Murdoch families rather than operated by an independent franchisee. Nielsen said the site was intentionally chosen for its proximity to Syracuse High School with the expectation it would "draw activity and tax revenue" to West Point. The approved site plan is listed at approximately 2000 W and Center St; the commission had no questions during the presentation and moved the project to the City Council.
